Welcome to Physics

Do you ever watch films or programmes on television and think “What makes that happen? How does it work?”. Are you someone who enjoys solving problems? Can you cope easily with applying mathematics in different situations?

The Physics course includes study relating to measurements and their errors, particles and radiation, waves, mechanics and materials, electricity, further mechanics and thermal physics, fields and their consequences and nuclear physics. Other topics that can be studied include astrophysics, medical physics, engineering physics and electronics.

Assessment

The Physics course is comprised of three assessments, all of which are written examinations.

  • Paper 1
    This is a written exam, lasting for 2 hours. This exam is worth 34% of the course certification.
  • Paper 2
    This is a written exam, lasting for 2 hours. This exam is worth 34% of the course certification.
  • Paper 3
    This is a written exam, lasting for 2 hours. This exam is worth 32% of the course certification.

Career & Progression Opportunities

Students with A-level Physics are employed in a huge variety of professions and industries, including all branches of manufacturing and engineering, patent work, research and development, aerospace engineering, education, aviation, astronomy, medicine, veterinary science, dentistry, geology, geophysics, radiotherapy, radiography, systems analysis, materials science, environmental science, as well as forensic science, the environment and health.

Entry Requirements

If you’d like to study Physics, then you’ll need at least a Grade 6 in GCSE Physics, or at least a Grade 6 in the Physics components of GCSE Coordinated Science.

You will also require at least a Grade 7 in GCSE Maths, and at least a Grade 5 in GCSE English Language.
